Italo-Brazilian chef Rafael Cagali debuted Da Terra at Bethnal Green’s Town Hall Hotel in 2019, in the space formerly occupied by Lee Westcott’s Typing Room and, before that, Nuno Mendes’ Viajante. Cagali is an ambitious chef with a résumé boasting big names only (Quique Dacosta, The Fat Duck, Aulis…). His riff on the cooking of his homeland is as characterful as the abstract art hung in the room with highlights of the lengthy tasting menu, including cannelloni stuffed with courgette, trout and chervil, moqueca with aged turbot and cachaça or Hereford short rib with cassava, artichoke and chimichurri.
